We sent about 4 weeks in Indiana in July. The above were just a few of the fun outings we had with Papa and Mimi, Uncle J.K, Auntie C, Uncle Andrew, Aunt Alecia and Aunt Bethany. After Indiana we headed for Virginia for 3 weeks. Here are some highlights from our time with Grandpa Mourer, Nanna, Uncle Eric, Uncle Kalimar and Aunt Gretchen.

Anne Visits Cyprus

Greg and Caleb in one of the Tombs of the Kings. These Hellenistic burial sites were for the rich and famous of ancient Pafos.

The Temple of Apollo was once one of the most sacred sites of ancient Cyprus. The penalty for touching its alter was to be hurled into the sea over the nearby cliffs!

Anne in front of a mosaic tile floor at ancient Kourion. This is one of the most spectacularly situated ancient site in Cyprus. It's theatre overlooks the turquoise blue waters of the eastern Mediterranean. The city was destroyed by an earthquake in 365 AD.

Salamis is a 3000 year old city, which dominated the island of Cyprus until it's near destruction by earthquake in the 4th century AD. Hellenistic (ancient Greece) mosaics, Roman baths, an amphitheatre and 2 Byzantine basilicas are contained within the site.

Buffavento Castle is about 3300 feet above sea level. We were able to drive part way up and then took a steep hike for about 30 min to reach the castle itself. Buffavento was built in the 10th century by the Byzantines to watch for Saracen raiders.

Here are a few highlights from our week with Andrew and Alecia in May. We took a long, hot hike up to Buffavento castle, clamored all over the Roman ruins of Salamis and toured some beautiful frescoes churches in the Troodos Mountains. We took them to the beach as well in Agia Nappa. It was a great visit.

Emily and Caleb visited Jerusalem last week while Greg was in Israel for work. Caleb learned that camels are good for sitting on. I learned that Caleb loves baby pools.

Nana and Aunt Ellen visit

At the end of March, my Mom "Nana" and her sister "Aunt Ellen" payed a visit to Cyprus. We saw much of the Island. Here are a few highlights. Caleb with the rock is at the coast near Petra tou Romiou, the birth place of Aphrodite. The rock shot is there as well. The back pack shot is at St. Hilarion castle near Kyrenia in the North. The group shot at the bottom is at St. Lazarus church in Larnaca.

Caleb Sledding Feb 2008

Sleigh bells ring, are you list'ning? In the land, snow is glist'ning.

This past February we took a trip to the mountains to do some sledding. Yes, there was two feet of snow up in the Troodos. We enjoyed every minute of it. The temperature dropped from 60 F to 32 F during our 45 minute sleigh ride (ok, it was a Volvo) up to the mountains. We enjoyed laughing at other tourists (British) sledding down on discarded trash bags in shorts and boat shoes. We opted for the rented sled.

Calebaldo is about to blow past Ronaldo in the tryouts for the Brazilian national team. Calebaldo changed his name and moved to Brazil because America doesn't yet have a competitive national program. If you don't know who Ronaldo is, please check out, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronaldo.

Caleb had fun playing on the slide in Kyrenia harbor while grammie, grandpa, mom, dad and aunt bethany watched. Kyrenia is a port town on the northern coast of Cyprus. Their are many interesting shops and restaurants surrounding the picturesque, historic harbor.

Christmas 2007

We had a fun Christmas morning with many wonderful gifts to open. One of the funnest was a shiny Little Red Wagon fire engine for Caleb. He loved riding it around the living room while wearing his new read pajamas and fashionable greek slippers.

Trip to The Troodos Mountains

We took a weekend trip to the Troodos mountains in November. We did a couple of hikes and enjoyed the vastly different vegetation and climate only an hour away. On a hike Greg had to traverse a stream seven times each way with a 25lb child on his back. Caleb's favorite part was the bathtub (aka bidet) he could crawl in and out of, in our hotel room. Needless to say we did not give him a bath in it!

Caleb is learning to drive Cypriot style. He has his hand on the horn and he's not thrilled with their being any other drivers on the road...very Cypriot.

Bonfire Night

We went to a huge bonfire and fireworks display at the United Nations base last Friday. It was to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day (British Holiday). Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament back in 1605, and the unsuccessful attempt is still celebrated with a bonfire and fireworks. Caleb loved watching the fire and didn't cry during the very loud fireworks. He loved being carried around on daddy's shoulders!

Halloween

We had fun dressing Caleb up for the Embassy Halloween events. He was a scarecrow. He quickly figured out that if he kept going back to the same office the people would continue to give him candy!

Our Home in Cyprus

Well, we finally have internet access, so we can keep you a little more updated on our life here. We have enjoyed a very hot summer. It was in the 100s (F) nearly every day in July and August. It's finally starting to feel like autumn now. We have views of two mountain ranges from our house, the Troodos and the Kyrenia. Everything is extremely dusty here. We have to spray off our porches and outdoor furniture constantly. It's been blue skies nearly every day since June. We have had rain twice in four months. The Cyproits desalinate seawater for drinking water, so no immediate fear of that drying up. We have terassio and tile floors throughout our house. We spend a lot of time in our large kitchen, which has a glass door to the covered veranda. I've enjoyed adding a bit of color outside with plants and herbs. As long as you water things here, they grow like crazy. We'll see how long I can keep them alive through the winter. Caleb loves playing outside. We have a baby pool for him to swim in and he has a sandbox under the car port (our car is to big to park under it). We go out many mornings and I (Emily) water the plants and Caleb runs around up and down the steps and through the flower beds.
